I changed my swim goal starting September 1st to 6.7 miles per week so that I will finish this adventure by December 15th. I am planning the FINISH LINE PARTY for that day. MARK YOUR CALENDARS, PEOPLE!!
I am happy to report that, for September, I exceeded my goal! I swam 6.7 miles for 3 of the weeks, and 8 miles during one of them! I swam 28.1 miles for the month; WOOT!! Not bad for an old lady with a mechanical heart, LOL! I continue to feel strong in the pool (most days) and grateful to be still moving. That is, when I’m not sore and tired! But seriously, I am taking the approach now to use my swimming as prayer and meditation time; pray for someone different during each lap, focus on the water and the strength of my body and mind as I’m overcoming the fatigue and whatever is weighing on me at that time. It makes it easier to get in the water as these last 11 weeks approach. In some ways the time has gone by fast, but in some ways it seems like a very long time.
I wonder what I will do with myself when this swimming is over-? I will have to find something as meaningful to make a difference and to challenge myself because this has been as joyful as it has been difficult. Not many opportunities present themselves like this in life.
I really hope that people come on December 15th in support of this cause because we hear so much about the epidemic of suicide in our youth. If this effort of mine can prevent even one other family from living with what my family does every day, it will be worth it.
Mark your calendars and save the date, PLEASE. Details forthcoming soon. Thanks!
